Birds of a feather sew together! Join us to make a textile bird!

This workshop invites you to join textile designers, Sara Nevay and Lucy Robertson, in a creative space to make personalised textiles birds in a group crafting setting.

We will provide you with the materials, instructions, facilities and support to create your very own textile bird to take away. This can be embellished to your hearts content by adding buttons, feathers, beads, fabric accessories or anything else you can think of!

This workshop is suitable for beginners however basic hand/machine sewing skills are required. Materials will be provided but feel free to bring along any fabric, buttons, beads and any other embellishments you’d like to use to personalise your textile companions.

This workshop is part of Sara and Lucy’s research around crafting for wellbeing and social connectedness.

Connecting with others is identified as one of the five key drivers for wellbeing, positively contributing to and supporting mental health. Beyond connective technologies, we can truly and socially connect through shared activity such as craft; research has shown that craft supports wellbeing by creating therapeutic value, enabling social activity and a sense of community and togetherness. Research data will be gathered with participant’s permission.

This workshop is open to participants aged 16 years and over.

This workshop will take place on level 5 of the Mathew building in Research Studio at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee. Please report to DJCAD reception and you will be directed to the workshop space.
