Para-site-seeing's art science summer programme

Posted on behalf of School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee

Join us on an art summer school with a difference at the University of Dundee's School of Life Sciences. We're looking for high-school pupils with an interest in art, science, or both, to come and be creative.

Para-site-seeing: Departure Lounge is a science art exhibition hosted by LifeSpace gallery. It explores the world of the deadly Leishmania parasite. In particular, it focuses on the parasite's journeys. This includes through time, around the world, and even around our labs, where we're trying to develop new cures for this deadly disease.

Throughout the week-long programme, you'll have an opportunity to meet some of the scientists who lead this world-leading research. You'll also take part in different workshops run by artists each day. We hope that, ultimately, you'll make a new, parallel exhibition to show off to your friends and family. Our sessions will run from 10-4pm, with the new show launching on the Friday night. We know a week isn't long, so even if you show off what you've made so far and then make more afterwards, that's great!

We're particularly keen to meet young people who haven't been to things run at the University before. If you're a bit further away and travel might be an issue, get in touch and we'll see what we can do to help. We'll also be providing lunch each day.

The programme is run by the University's Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research. We're setting our sights on infectious diseases. If you'd like to find out more about the Centre's work, our website https://wcair.dundee.ac.uk/public-engagement/ has lots more info.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There are places to drop off at the School of Life Sciences, but all-day parking on campus is very limited. We're happy to chat more with you about other ways of getting here, so don't let distance be a barrrier.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can reach Ali Floyd, WCAIR Public Engagement Manager, at a.floyd@dundee.ac.uk
